About sight: The Church of Odigitria

The Church of Odigitria is in the north-western corner of the Rostov Kremlin, near the Church of Resurrection.

It was built after the death of Iona Sysoyevich in 1693. The church windows are decorated by carved casing. The church was built in the style of Moscow baroque.

The interior of the church is as luxurious as its exterior. Unlike the rest of the churches, which are painted by the frescoes in the ancient Russian style, the Church of Odigitria is decorated by stucco cartouches with frescoes in the center.

Now an exposition is held on the first floor of the church. The exposition is devoted to the icon-painting and sculpture, as well as decorative and applied arts of 17-18 centuries. At the exposition you can see icons, cleric garments, and art silverware.
