Bulgaria travel guide: Bulgaria

The country has excellent opportunities for beach vacations. In Western Bulgaria there is famous resort «Golden Sands», which is on the coast of the Black Sea. And you can go to Bulgaria not only in summer. There are also some mountain resorts in this country. As to sightseeing you can do it all the year round.

Golden Sands is a wide strip of sandy beaches not far from the city of Varna. The beaches are well equipped for recreation. There is also an adequate accommodation and entertainment infrastructure.

Except Varna, there are also some other coastal places which are very suitable for quieter and less expensive vacations, for example, townships of Nessebar and Sozopol. Nessebar is near Burgas. There are many various churches and cozy beaches. Sozopol can be one of the oldest towns of Europe, as it was founded by the Greeks in 610 B. C.

You must visit the capital of Bulgaria Sofia. There are many historical sites in the city. The largest temple of Sofia and all Bulgaria is Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which is adjacent to the sixth century church of St. Sofia. And apart from sightseeing you can just enjoy promenades over the streets of this welcoming city.

In the center of Bulgaria there is an interesting city of Veliko Tarnovo. It has been the ancient capital of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom. There survived some fortifications, as well as the Royal Palace and many other curious historical sites.

Not far from Sofia, in highland areas, there are several ski resorts, such as Banska, Borovets, and Pamporovo. They offer wonderful mountain landscapes and excellent skiing tracks. Moreover, Bulgarian resorts are much cheaper than those of Central Europe.
