About city: Rome

Rome is the «Eternal City». No other city on the planet has such a glorious history as that of the capital of the greatest Roman Empire.

According to the legend Rome was founded in Romulus and Remus in VII B.C. The legen-dary brothers were supposedly nursed by the bitch wolf. Then one of the brothers killed the other one and founded the city, which was fated to play the key role in the development of what we now call «Western Civilization». Eventually, the boundaries of ancient Roman Empire were much extended, and at the beginning of our era it spread over most part of the ancient world. Surely, at such scale, the capital of the empire could be but the great city. From those times there remained a huge number of splendid sights in Rome, attracting millions of tourists every year.

You should go to Rome for several days, say for 2 days. However it would be fine if you could spare 3-4 days for Rome tours. The first day will be dedicated to ancient Rome. In the first place, you should look around look around the Colosseum and huge Roman Forum located at the foot of Palatine and Capitol Hills. After that you should climb up the hills themselves. From Palatine Hill you can have a wonderful view of the Circus Maximus and churches of ancient Rome. Capitol Hill is beautiful by itself. The square is surrounded by three palaces and famous stair with sculptures of Castor and Pollux. From Palatine Hill you can have a magnificent view of the Colosseum and ancient Roman Forum.

Apart from the Roman Forum, there are also so called imperials forums, those of Augustus, Vespasian, Nerva and Trajan, near the Palatine and Capitol Hills. Trajan's Forum is the most famous of them. It is an impressive complex consisting of ancient buildings, and later Catholic churches.

The second day will be dedicated to Catholic Rome. It is Vatican. When going there you shouldn’t wear shorts and sleeveless T-shirts, or otherwise you wouldn’t be admitted to St. Pe-ter's Basilica. You must climb atop the dome of the cathedral, giving a splendid panorama of Rome. Vatican Museums are near the Cathedral. Even if you don’t like museums, you should go there, even only if to admire Sistine Chapel. That day you may also visit nearby St. Angel Castle.

Besides the Forum and Vatican, in the center of Rome you can see a lot of interesting things literally «at every turn». From a huge number of other attractions of Rome you may pay your attention to the following ones: the Squares of Spain and Navon, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Altar of the Fatherland, Quirinal Palace, and Basilica of St. Mary Major. And this is only a smaller part of attractions, which are worth visiting.

If you want to see the environs of Rome, you should make a trip to Tivoli. In middle ages there were built the Villa d’Este. It will be very pleasant to have a stroll in its park amid fountains and picturesque ruins.
