The Novgorod Kremlin (also Detinets) is the most interesting place in the city. It is located in the center of the city on the river Volkhov. The first records of it date back to the 11 century. Inside the Kremlin is the most ancient Russian church, the Cathedral of St. Sophia and the bell tower, as well as the Monument to the Thousand Years of Russia
On the bank of the Volkhov river opposite the Kremlin you can see at least as curious place – the Yaroslavovo Dvorishche (Yaroslav`s Court) or the Trade Mart. The Court appeared in the 11 century as a market and veche square
Nicholas cathedral
Church Of The Transfiguration
Anthony Nativity monastery
Boris and Gleb Church
When visiting Novgorod the Great in summer you must go on an excursion along the Volkhov river. Every hour the excursion ships depart from the two landings, opposite the Novgorod Kremlin and the Yaroslav`s Court. Volkhov river flows from the Lake Ilmen towards the Lake Ladoga
