Red Avenue has always been the main street of Novosibirsk. It starts near the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, near the Embankment of the Ob River. In 1896, a railway station was built here. A city formed around it. Nowadays, Red Avenue stretches for 6.5 kilometers to the intersection with Severnaya Street.

For a walk along Red Avenue, plan a small section from the Ascension Cathedral to Pervomaisky Square. Its length is 1.7 kilometers. On this site there are most of the houses built in the constructivist style, as well as the most famous sights of Novosibirsk. If you have the strength for a longer walk, combine this route with the route "Novosibirsk of the 19th century".

Start your walk near one of the central metro stations Sibirskaya, where the Ascension Cathedral is located. This is the main cathedral of Novosibirsk. Between the Sibirskaya metro station and the Theater Square is the central part of Red Avenue, where the most beautiful buildings were built in the 1920s-30s.

Walk about 1 kilometer to the Theater Square, where you will see the most monumental architectural ensemble: a huge monument to Lenin, the Opera and Ballet Theater (the largest in Russia), the Museum of Local Lore and Pervomaisky Garden.

If you go further, then there you will see the St. Nicholas Chapel – the symbol of Novosibirsk. There are also many beautiful buildings in the style of constructivism and Stalinist Empire in this place. A little further away are the Novosibirsk Art Museum, as well as the Roerich Museum.
