Mexico travel guide: Mexico

Mexico has always attracted tourists, especially from America. And this country can offer excellent opportunities for beach vacations on the coast of both Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. However, you should combine beaches with tours to the ruined cities of Maya and Aztec Indians, which have earlier lived on the territory of today's Mexico. And these mysterious civilizations left many curious historical monuments which are annually visited by a great number of tourists.

As a rule, you start your acquaintance with Mexico from its capital, Mexico City. It is the second largest megalopolis after Tokyo. Its population is over 21 million people. Mexico City was founded on the site of the ancient capital of Aztecs, Tenochtitlan. You can spare a day or two to explore its historical center.

The center of Mexico is Socolo (Constitution Square). There located a cathedral (one of the largest in America) and many other historical sites. It was just there that the ruins of Tenochtitlan were excavated. The main sanctuary of Mexico - Basilica of Guadalupe – is not far from the center of the city.

The most famous historical site of Mexico City is the ruins of Teotihuacan, the ancient city of Aztecs. Now they are within the limits of today's Mexico. And the historical complex is really impressive. And gigantic Pyramid of the Moon and the Road of the Dead are most representative of Aztec culture.

Popokatepel (“smoking mountain”) is 70 km of Mexico. Its altitude is 5.5 thousand meters and its eruption could represent a real danger to Mexico, but so far it is dormant. There are 14 monasteries on its slopes.

Also, you should visit Chichen Iza, Uxmal, Palenque, Tula, and Tikal. Chichen Iza is in the immediate vicinity of Kankun, one of the best Mexican resorts. It is the best historical complex devoted to maya civilization. For a long time Uxmal has been forgotten by people, and was almost fully assimilated by jungles. However, it was reopened several decades ago, and surrounding wildlife only adds to its beauty.
The largest resorts of Mexico are Kankun, Acapulco and Mansanilio. Kankun is on the coast of the Caribbean Sea, in Yukatan. And Acapulco is situated on the coast of Pacific Ocean. The cities have a great number of various hotels and favourable beach resort atmosphere. Near Tihuana in Mexican California there located another two resorts, San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas.
