Sinai mount
About place: Sinai mount

This is one of the highest mountains in the Sinai Peninsula. It is 2285 meters high. It is believed that it was just there that the God, after the wanderings of the Israel about the lands of Sinai, gave Moses the stone tablets with 10 commandments.

One can go on an excursion to the Moses' Mountain from the resort areas of Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab or Taba. Buses arrive to the mountain at about 4-5 in the morning, and the ascent begins in complete darkness. You can take a torch from the guide, and you should put on warm clothes and easy footwear.

One can climb by either of two paths. One of them consists of 3750 fairly steep steps with no rails on both sides, so to climb them in complete darkness is rather risky. However, it is just this path that is considered to be the «road of the prophet Moses». There is also the other path, which is taken by all tourists who climb the mountain. It is rather sloping and twisting up the mountain as a serpentine. The ascent takes about 2-3 hours, and there are 3 cafes on the way, where one can stop and have a cup of coffee. In any case, the ascent is fairly difficult.
Every morning at least a hundred of people meet the dawn on the Moses' Mountain. They watch as the sun first tinges the horizon with orange color, and then rises above the mountains, staining the environs with a variety of colors.

After the visit to the Moses' Mountain tourists go down. And some of them do it not by the sloping path but by the steep step path, which was once followed by Moses. In broad day-light it isn’t as dangerous. Having descended from the mountain tourists visit the monastery of St. Catherine.
