About country: Philippines

The country is situated on several thousands of islands in Pacific Ocean. The capital of Philippines, Manila, is on the largest island of Luzon. Manila is surrounded by several satellite cities, and each of them has some curious architectural sights.

One of the most interesting attractions of Philippines is rice terraces of Bananue on Luzon Island. You can get there from Manila. They were carved in the mountain sides by the ifuago, which still do without electricity and other achievements of civilization, as hundreds of years ago. Many interesting tourist paths go along the terraces.

To the north from rice terraces of Bananue there is the cave of Callao. It consists of 7 gigantic chambers. Every chamber has natural crevices, which let light get into the cave. There are remains of ancient wood in the area.

One of the most beautiful islands of Philippines is Palawan Island in the south-western part of the country, not far from Malaysia. There are many nice beaches and coral reefs. But beaches aren’t the only tourist attraction. Trips to rain forests and picturesque hills are also very interesting. The most curious attraction of Palawan is Subterranean River National Park of Puerto-Princess. It is located in the Saint Paul Mountain Range. For about 8 kilometers the river flows under the ground through subterranean halls. Some halls are 60 meters high and 100 meters wide.

From Puerto-Princess you can go to Tubbataha Reef in the Sea of Sulu. The Sea contains over 30% of the world's coral reefs and Tubbataha is the most beautiful reef in Philippines. There are many steep underwater walls along these two atolls, covered with corals.

It is rather interesting to go in for diving near Subic-Bay (near Manila). For a long time there have been located the navy bases of many countries and during World War II there were drowned over 20 large ships in shallow waters.
