Where to stay: Lake Baikal

If you have at most 1-2 days to visit Baikal, it is better to get on a boat tour of the most beautiful places of the lake (Peschanay Bay, mouth of Selenga) starting from Irkutsk. In this case, it would be better to stay in one of Irkutsk hotels. There are various hotels in this fairly large city. All tours start from the riverside station of Irkutsk. There are many restaurants, bars and night clubs in the city, so one can find entertainment to one's liking. Also, you must be aware that when you go to Baikal for so short a time, it is likely that you'll require two days for acclimatization, and you'll have no time for clubs.

If you decided to go to Listvyanka (Baikal settlement nearest of Irkutsk), there is a wide range of inns, campings or simply B&B rooms (often without the second B). Here almost everyone can find something to his/her taste, including comfortable hotels. The best hotel is “Mayak”, located near the riverside. Also, one can mention hotel “Baikal Legend”. There are several restaurants in the settlement. But there is no night life (clubs, etc.) there.

If you decided to go to Olkhon Island or Maloye Morye, there are two accommodation alternatives – tent or camping. Tent is the simplest variant. As one can put a tent anywhere and not only on the enclosed territory of camping. Campings are generally located on the lake shore, near Olkhon ferry. The area is called Maloye Morye. There are also many accommodation offers on the island itself.
