About sight: Novosibirsk wooden architecture

In the oldest quarters of Novosibirsk located around the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky there remained a number of wooden houses. They let you know how the city looked in the first years of its existence.
Generally, the notion of «wooden architecture» largely refers to Tomsk, which is 260 kilometers of Novosibirsk. Tomsk was laid down in 1604 and by the foundation of 1893 it became a big city and the capital of Western Siberia. For centuries all houses were built from wood in Tomsk. And a result, there were formed the traditions of wooden architecture.
However, if you have no time for visiting Tomsk but you would like to see the Russian wooden houses of the beginning of the 20 century, you may have a walk on some streets of Novosibirsk located to the north of the first railway station «Ob».
If you go to the north from the Cathedral of Alexander Nevsky, you will get to Communist street. It is in this street that the largest number of tenement and residential houses dating back to the beginning of the 20 century remained. Here are the most interesting of them: the tenement house of Pyatkova and the residential houses of merchants Stikhin and Beylin. Nicholas Roerich Museum is also on this street.
Communist street is parallel to Oktyabrskaya (October) street. On this street there are only two wooden houses and a wooden church, that of the intercession of the Holy Virgin. The Buzolin's house may be considered one of the most original wooden houses of Novosibirsk.
Chaplygin street is next to Oktyabrskaya street. There are three wooden houses in this street. The most beautiful of them is the house with mezzanine on 25, Chaplygin St. It belonged to a merchant Runin. Near it is the house with a beautiful porch.
Gorky street is next to Chaplygin street. There are many old wooden houses dating back to the beginning of the 20 century in this street. Some of the houses are only partially wooden: with ground floor of stone or brick and the first floor of wood.
The most beautiful and big wooden house of Novosibirsk is on 25, Lenin St. It is the house of a merchant Surikov. The house was built in 1905 and was rented to a girl’s gymnasium in 1913.
