The Casa Amattler is one of the architectural masterpieces in the Discord Quarter of Barcelona. It is located next to the House of Battlo, a creation of Gaudi. The House of Amattler resembles the medieval houses of Northern Europe, and in the decoration, you can see a mix of many styles.

The Casa Amattler and the House of Battlo were built in the 70s of the 19th century, but both were reconstructed by famous architects at the very beginning of the 20th century. The House of Amattler acquired its present appearance earlier. In 1898 it was bought by pastry chef Antonio Amattler, and he immediately entrusted its reconstruction to the architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. A whole group of artists and decorators were involved in this work.

As a result of their work, a building with elements of art Nouveau, Flemish Gothic, and Arabic script appeared. Such buildings are common in cities in the Netherlands and Belgium, but are not often found in the South of Europe.

The facade of the house is decorated with pink-sand color. The steps on the roof are finished with ceramic tiles. All this creates a contract not only with neighboring houses, but also there is a mix of styles on individual details of the house itself.

In the interior, as well as on the facade there are elements of art Nouveau and Moorish style. The walls are decorated with frescoes on biblical subjects. In many places, you can see statues made in the medieval style.
