The Town Hall of Zurich, in the Baroque style, was built in 1698 directly above the river Limmat. One of the facades touches the embankment, but in general its foundation is piles driven into the bottom of the river. Inside, very beautiful interiors of the 19th century have been preserved.

By the 19th century, Zurich had already become one of the industrial and financial centers of Switzerland, so the authorities of the city decided to build a beautiful stone building on the site of the wooden Town Hall, embodying the well-being of the city.

The facades of the three-story Town Hall building are faced with hewn stone in the style of Italian palaces. The entrance to the Town Hall is made in the form of a monumental gate. If possible, you should go inside to see the beautiful interiors of the Town Hall with stucco and painted ceilings.

Since 1803, the Council of the Canton of Zurich also met in the Town Hall of Zurich, but in the 20th century, the city government was moved to another location. Now it sometimes hosts citywide receptions. The Town hall of Zurich is open to the public.
