31.07.2012 New national preserve opened in Georgia

The parliament of Georgia decided to create a new nature preserve at Machakhela Gorge, reports Geo Meridian portal.

This nature preserve taking up the area of over eight hectares is located on the territory of the municipalities Khelvachauri and Keda. Within the framework of the project there will be assigned grants for developing tourism, particularly for creating ecological tours and mini hotels.

Apart from beautiful mountain nature, Machakhela Gorge, which was one of the main cultural and economical centers of the ancient Colchis, is also famous for the great number of historical sites, for example, hanging and arched bridges, fortresses and monasteries. Also, you can taste unique kinds of local wines.
