28.02.2013 Balloon wreck in Luxor

In connection with recent wreck of the balloon with tourists, which happened on February 26th 2013, the local authorities banned all such flights for indefinite time, reports Geo Meridian portal.

This time the cause of the accident was explosion of a gas cylinder, after which the balloon got on fire and fell down from the height of about 300 meters to the west of Luxor. As a result of the accident only 2 of 20 passengers survived. As a matter of fact, similar incidents have already happened before. For instance, in 2009 a balloon managed to ram in the mobile communication tower. Then balloon flights were banned for half a year.

Luxor is one of the most interesting tourist attractions of Egypt. In the immediate vicinity of Luxor on the east bank of the Nile there located such ancient monuments as the temple of Luxor and Karnak, connected with the sphinx alley of 4 kilometers long. On the west bank of the Nile there is also something to see: temples of Hatshepsut, Medinet-Abu, and Ramesseum.
