29.04.2013 The Rijksmuseum resumed its operation in Amsterdam

The famous Rijksmuseum has recently been reopened in Amsterdam after a 10 years long restoration, reports Geo Meridian portal.

The restoration works began in 2003 and cost the museum a nice sum of 375 million euros. The building of 19 century was equipped with the last technologies of the current century. Also, the exposition was reorganized. If previously, sculptures and paintings were at separate halls, now you can see the furniture, sculpture and pictures of the given period at one and the same hall.

The only pictures that remained on its original place is the "Nigh Watch" by Rembrandt, which is the pride of the Rijksmuseum. In 1906 they even had to rebuild the museum building to place the picture of the great Dutch painter.

The Rijksmuseum is one the largest museums in the world and the largest one in the Netherlands. Today building of the Rijksmuseum was erected half a century after the foundation of the museum in 1808 when the old building became too small for its exposition.
