Several wooden houses that are of historical value have been preserved in Novosibirsk. Walking along this route, you will see how Novosibirsk looked like at the end of the 19th century, when it was a small station Novo-Nikolaevsk on the Trans-Siberian railway.

Start your walk in the City Beginning Park. Its name suggests that there was first a small village near the railway station, and then the third largest city in Russia. In the park, look at the old spans of the railway bridge over the Ob River and take a walk along the embankment.

From the park, go up to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. This is the first stone building in Novosibirsk, when all the houses in the city were wooden. Then in the 20th century almost all wooden houses were demolished, but in some places they have been preserved and are now protected by the state.

From the cathedral, go to the Communist Street. There are 4 wooden houses here. They are located next to each other; some have beautiful architraves and cornices.

Then go to the neighboring Oktyabrskaya Street. A very beautiful wooden House of Buzolin with a bay window has been preserved here. The wooden Church of the Intercession of the Virgin is located nearby.

After that, go to the neighboring Chaplygin Street. There are three wooden houses preserved next to each other. Here you will see the one-story house of the Merchant Runin with a large mezzanine.

Further, at Gorky St. 16, 18 and 20, three wooden houses, which are protected by the state, stand close to each other. The house No. 16 houses the USSR Museum and the Museum of Siberian Birch Bark. It used to be a merchant Kulikov's house. House No. 18 used to belong to Ali Fayzukhanov (1914). Nearby on Gorky Street you can see stone houses of the early 20th century.

If you walk a few blocks to Lenin Street, then there you will see the most monumental house of wooden architecture in Novosibirsk. This is a two-story house of merchant Surikov. There are also small wooden houses next to it.
