After the 1905 revolution, the Tsar's family of Nicholas II settled in the Alexander Palace in Tsarskoye Selo. After the February revolution and the forced abdication of the throne, the Royal family was moved to Tobolsk. After the October revolution, the Bolsheviks demanded that the Tsar move to Yekaterinburg. On July 17, 1918, Tsar Nicholas II and members of his family were shot in the basement of Ipatiev's house, and their bodies were thrown into the Ganina Yama mine. They are buried in the Peter and Paul Cathedral in Saint Petersburg.
