The tongues of the Bashkara glacier descend from three mountain peaks: Jantugan (4012 m) Bashkara (4162 m) and Ullu-Kara (4302 m). The pyramidal peak of Jantugan is on the left. Bashkara Mountain with three small teeth on the top is located in the center. The highest of them, Mount Ullu-Kara, is on the right. It has a domed top. All its slopes are covered with hanging glaciers all year round.

The Bashkara Glacier is melting and constantly retreating, although not as fast as the Shkhelda Glacier, located in the neighboring gorge. Below the glacier there are two lakes that fill with meltwater. A very beautiful Lake Bashkara is located directly under the glacier, and below is Lake Lapa.

Lake Bashkara was separated from the gorge of the river Adyl-Su by larges moraines, and the Bashkara glacier constantly filled it. In the early 2000s, glaciologists began constant observations of the Bashkara Glacier and the lake. They warned of a possible moraine breach. This happened on September 1, 2017. As a result of the moraine breakthrough, a powerful mudflow descended down the Adyl-Su gorge.
