The Blue Lagoon is one of the most famous places in Akamas National Park. All boats from the village of Neo Chorio or excursion boats from the more remote town of Polis sail here.
The water in the Blue Lagoon has a turquoise color near the shore and a rich blue color in the open sea. The Blue Lagoon is also called the "Amphitheater", as the rocky shore surrounding the Bay resembles an amphitheater in shape. Tourists, who come to the Blue Lagoon by boat, swim in the sea, as there is no possibility to dock to the shore here. Tourists who come to the Blue Lagoon on foot along the Aphrodite Trail can swim on the small sandy beach. This beach is only 30 meters long. It is located on the right side of the Bay among volcanic boulders. However, two hundred meters further along the coast there is a large beach Fontana Amorosa. There are great opportunities for swimming.
Tourists who sail to the Blue Lagoon by boat can admire the mountainous terrain of Akamas Park, which is densely overgrown with vegetation. In the middle of the way, they see the highest mountain of the Akamas reserve, Moutti tis Sotiras. Its height is 370 meters. The Aphrodite Hiking trail, which starts at the Aphrodite Baths and then goes to the Blue Lagoon, also goes past this mountain. On the way here, you can meet grazing goats. There are rare species of animals and plants in the Akamas nature reserve, but it is difficult for an ordinary tourist to see them.
