The tower of the Church of St. Gandolph rises above the Market square of Trier, and the Church itself is squeezed between other buildings. The entrance to the Church is located in a small courtyard. The Church was founded in 958, but was rebuilt many times over the centuries.

The building of the Church of St. Gandolph, built in 1284-1344, in the late Gothic style, has been preserved to this day. Over time, the Market square was built up with residential buildings, and the Church building was in a narrow courtyard. In the 14th and 16th centuries, the upper floors of galleries with corner towers were added to the Church, and the West tower was also erected. The entrance portal was decorated in the 18th century in the Baroque style.

In the 17th century, a square tower with a spire and clock was built over the Church, which is now clearly visible from the Market Square. The height of the tower was 62 meters, which made it higher than the spire of Trier Cathedral. By order of the Archbishop of Trier, the height of the South tower of The Trier Cathedral was increased.

Numerous alterations of the Church were reflected in its interior. In general, it has retained its Gothic appearance, but many details were made in later times, that is why you can see elements of the Renaissance and Baroque.
