Dam square in Amsterdam photo

Dam square is the main city square located in the central part of the old town. There is the Royal Palace on the square, which was built in 1655 and originally served the City Hall. And only in 1808, when the king of the Netherlands was the brother of Napoleon, Louis Philippe, it was converted into the palace. However, now royal family doesn’t live there. As is known, royal household is located in Hague. There is the New Church near the Palace. It was founded in 1408.

There is a large white monument in the middle of the square dedicated to the Dutchmen perished in World War II. On both sides of the memorial there are the largest department stores of Amsterdam – Bejenkorf and Peek&Kloppenburg. It is just there you can buy both costly goods of well-known brands and less expensive products.
