The gallery Elisenbrunnen (Elisa`s Spring) is located near Aachen Cathedral. It has the form of a colonnade with a large hall in the center. In the main hall of Elisenbrunnen there is a gallery (buvette) with drinking mineral water. Its temperature reaches 46°, while the water has the smell of hydrogen sulfide.

During the Napoleonic Wars, the town of Aachen was incorporated into France, but as a result of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the town was returned to Prussia. In 1822, the German architect Karl Schinkel began construction of the Elisenbrunnen Gallery in honor of the 25th anniversary of the reign of King Frederick William III. It was called Elisenbrunnen (Elisa`s Source), in honor of the Princess Elizabeth of Bavaria.

Doric columns are installed along the entire gallery of the Elisenbrunnen. On the marble tablets are written the names of royalty, as well as famous people who came to the mineral springs of Aachen for treatment. There are a lot of them. First on the list is Candidus Severus, a close relative of the Roman emperor Septimius Severus.

Nowadays, in addition to the drinking pump room in the Gallery Elisenbrunnen is a tourist center, as it is quite convenient to start walking routes around the town. Sometimes various exhibitions and events are held in the central hall of the Elisenbrunnen and in the square in front of it.
