Gomel is one of the oldest and most beautiful cities in Belarus, located on the banks of the Sozh River. It is the second-largest city in the country, renowned for its rich history, architecture, and welcoming atmosphere. Here, you will find one of the most beautiful palace and park complexes in Belarus.

The first mention of the city dates back to 1142 in the Hypatian Codex, where it is described as the center of the Gomel Principality. During the Middle Ages, Gomel was an important trade and craft center, part of the Kievan Rus, and later the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.

In 1772, after the first partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, Gomel became part of the Russian Empire. During this period, the city began to develop rapidly. A significant contribution to its prosperity was made by Count Pyotr Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky, to whom Catherine II gifted Gomel in recognition of his services. Rumyantsev and his heirs transformed the city into a thriving cultural and economic center. In the 19th century, Gomel became one of the most beautiful cities in the region, thanks to the construction of palaces, parks, and churches.
