    Kaivopuisto Park

    Helsinki, Finland, Europe

Kaivopuisto is not merely the oldest and largest park in central Helsinki. Its history is the history of the city`s transformation from a provincial fortress into a European capital. The park originated in the 1830s following the discovery of a curative spring (the word "kaivo" means "well" or "spring"). Entrepreneur Henrik Ludwig Nepein established here Finland`s first spa resort complex with bathhouses, restaurants, and promenades
