Lenin and the Revolution

The Revolution of 1918, which was later called the October Revolt, had a decisive influence on the development of Russian history, and significantly influenced world history. In Russia, there are many places associated with Vladimir Lenin, who led the Bolshevik party, and made Revolution. After the Revolution he headed the Soviet government.

Many people are interested in visiting places associated with Lenin. All of them are located in different parts of Russia. Lenin was born in the city of Ulyanovsk and here you can see a huge Museum dedicated to Vladimir Lenin and the Ulyanov family.

After Ulyanovsk, the family moved to Kazan, where Vladimir Lenin entered the University. There is Lenin House-museum here. After being expelled from the University, the family moved to Samara. There is also a house Museum.

In Krasnoyarsk, there is a huge Lenin Museum. From this city Lenin went into exile in the village of Shushenskoye on the steamer Nicholas the Prelate. This steamer has also been turned into a Museum. The village of Shushenskoye is one of the most interesting museums of wooden architecture in Russia, since both the houses where Lenin lived and the village itself was preserved like it was during Lenin stay in the late 19th century.

Other places associated with Lenin are located in St. Petersburg and Moscow, as main events related to the Revolution took place here.

In St. Petersburg, you need to see: Smolny Palace (this is the current residence of the Governor, so excursions are very limited), the Cruiser Aurora (its volley was the signal for the beginning of the revolution), Lenin`s hut in Razliv (where he hid from the Provisional government).

In Moscow, you can see Lenin`s Mausoleum on Red Square, where Lenin`s embalmed body is kept. It is open to the public in the morning. In the Moscow region is the estate Leninskie Hills, where he spent the last years of his life. There is a large Museum, as well as the house and outbuilding where he lived with Krupskaya. The situation of the estate is completely preserved like it was during the life of Lenin. Here is also located Museum which was moved from the Senate Palace in the Moscow Kremlin.
