Back

Poda Island is one of the most picturesque islands near Ao Nang in Krabi Province. It`s part of the popular "4 Islands" tour (sometimes referred to as the 3 Islands tour), but unlike other stops, visitors spend more time here—between 1.5 to 3 hours. The island is famous for its dazzling white sand, turquoise waters, and secluded spots where you can enjoy tranquility and natural beauty.

The main attraction of Poda Island is its wide beach with powdery white sand, gently lapped by crystal-clear water. The sea transitions from bright turquoise near the shore to deep blue further out. The gradual slope of the seabed makes it perfect for swimming and ideal for families with children.

The beach is lined with coconut palms and other trees, providing natural shade. Just offshore stands the iconic limestone rock formation (Koh Poda Rock or Khao Phing Kan), a signature landmark of the island often featured on postcards and travel photos of Krabi. At low tide, you can kayak or even walk to the rock.

Things to Do on Poda Island

• Swimming & Relaxing – The main activities on the island.
• Snorkeling – Near the rocks and at Secret Beach, you can spot colorful marine life.
• Photoshoot – The best shots are with the famous rock in the background.
• Picnic – Some visitors bring food and enjoy a meal under the shade of palm trees.
• Kayaking – Rent a kayak to explore the surrounding waters.

Secret Beach of Poda Island

Beyond the main beach, there’s a hidden cove (Secret Beach), rarely visited by tour groups. To find it, take a boat along the southern coastline—you’ll discover a secluded stretch with even clearer water and scenic rock formations. It’s a great spot for snorkeling among coral reefs and tropical fish.

Can You Stay the Whole Day?

Overnight stays are not allowed—there are no hotels, only a small restaurant and basic facilities. However, if you rent a private longtail boat, you can stay until sunset and enjoy a nearly empty beach after tour groups leave.

How to Get to Koh Poda?

• "4 Islands" Tour – The most popular option (usually includes Koh Poda, Koh Talu, Koh Mor, and Koh Kai).
• Private Longtail Boat – Can be chartered from Ao Nang. Travel time is 20–30 minutes (depending on waves). A speedboat takes under 15 minutes.
• Best Time to Visit – Arrive early (around 8:00 AM) to enjoy the island before crowds arrive and during high tide. Low tide starts around noon.
• Distance from Ao Nang – Approximately 8–10 km (varies based on departure point).

Koh Poda is the perfect destination for those seeking a pristine beach, crystal-clear waters, and stunning photo opportunities with its famous rock formation. For a more private experience, visit after 3:00 PM when most tourists have left.
