The Art Gallery of Polotsk is located in the building of the former Jesuit Collegium, which is a monument of architecture and history. The Jesuit Collegium in Polotsk was founded in 1580 and became one of the most important educational and cultural centers in the region. Several buildings of the collegium were constructed in the Baroque style.
A special role in the creation of the collegium was played by Gabriel Gruber, an architect, engineer, and scientist who served as the rector of the Polotsk Jesuit Collegium at the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th century. Gruber not only led the educational institution but also personally participated in the design and construction of the building. Thanks to his efforts, the collegium became one of the most impressive architectural ensembles of its time.
The Art Gallery of Polotsk was opened in the building of the former collegium in the 1980s. Its collection includes works of art from various eras and styles:
1. Belarusian Art: The gallery features works by Belarusian artists, ranging from the 19th century to the present day. Special attention is given to the works of masters whose art reflects the cultural and historical traditions of the region. Among them are Ivan Khrutsky, Yudel Pen, Mikhail Savitsky, and others.
