    Pyramid of Djoser

    Saqqara Necropolis, Cairo, Egypt

Amidst the sands of Saqqara stands a monument that changed the course of human history. This is the Step Pyramid of Djoser – not just the world`s oldest large-scale stone structure (around 4,700 years old), but also history`s first grand architectural project. It became the prototype for all future Egyptian pyramids and a symbol of the transition from clay and reeds to the eternity of stone.
