The stone Resurrection Church was built on the Trade square of Ples in 1817, in honor of the victory of Russia over Napoleon. In Ples there is another equally famous Resurrection Church, but it is wooden, and is located on the top of mount Levitan.
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ was built over the main Trade area of Ples on a hill. It is very clearly visible from the Volga. It looks especially beautiful at the background of the high Sobornaya mountain and the Resurrection mountain. Nearby on the slope is a small wooden Church of Archangel Michael from the village of Antonovskoe. It was built in 1825, and in 1989, it was moved to Ples. Sobornaya mountain offers a very beautiful view of the Resurrection Church on the background of the Volga.
The Resurrection Church began to be built in 1810, before the war with Napoleon, but after the invasion of Napoleon`s troops in Russia, the work was suspended. It was completed only in 1817 and dedicated to "the glorious victories of the Russian army in the Patriotic war of 1812".
The height of the bell Tower of the Resurrection Church reaches 32 meters. 10 bells for it were cast at the Ural plant. The Church is built in the architectural style of Yaroslavl churches of the 18th century and is decorated in a classic style.
