In the village of Tasinsky, in the middle of the marshes of the Meshchera National Park, there is an open-air museum called the "Russian Farmstead". It is a copy of a Russian fortified medieval settlement, fenced with a stockade of logs. Inside, you can see models of typical Russian houses and outbuildings of that era.
The distance from the city of Gus-Khrustalny to the village of Tasinsky is 35 kilometers. There is an auto road between them. In addition to visiting the museum, in Tasinsky you can walk along the hiking trail "Forest world of Meshchera". It starts near the museum behind a stockade of logs. On the autoroad you can make a stop at the village of Erlex, to walk along two other ecological trails. One of them is called "The Road to the Temple", the other is called "A Trek along the ancient Ryazan road". Both hiking trails start near the Pol River.
Russian Farmstead Museum is often visited by groups of children, as they are interested in seeing what a fortified Russian settlement looked like when Mongol-Tatar troops led by Batu Khan came to Russia. After that, Ancient Russia fell into vassalage from the Mongol khans for several centuries.
The Russian Farmstead Museum in Meshchera has three expositions. In the exposition of the Ancient Russian Settlement, you can see how the wooden houses of that time looked like. Some of them are built in full size, and others in the form of small layouts. There is also a wooden church with wooden domes. The exposition "Russian farmstead" recreates elements of peasant life. The exposition "Russian Hut" is located in one of the houses where you can see how the peasants lived in the past centuries. The interior has been recreated using authentic 19th century items. There is also a mini zoo where you can see a bear and a fox.
