Most of the center of Tskaltubo is occupied by a huge Tskaltubo Park. In the center of it is the famous Spring No. 6, which is called Stalin`s. During the Soviet period, 19 sanatoriums were built around Tskaltubo Park, as well as several hotels. All of them impressed with their monumentality. In other famous balneological resorts of the USSR, such as Kislovodsk or Pyatigorsk, there was no such infrastructure.
Alas, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, all the sanatoriums fell into complete desolation. They were focused on serving a large number of tourists from major cities of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the country, this tourist flow stopped in an instant, and Georgia did not have the resources to maintain an infrastructure of this scale in the 1990s.
Nowadays, refugees from Abkhazia live in some former sanatoriums, completely disconnected from communications, while only ruins remain of others. This prevents their recovery, but perhaps there is no point in it anymore. The maintenance of such giant sanatorium complexes requires large expenses, and people`s priorities have changed.
Nowadays, enough hotels and guest houses have been built in Tskaltubo to receive tourists and treat them at radon springs. Medical procedures can be taken at the Spring No. 6, which is located in the center of Tskaltubo Park. The balneological center has been completely restored at the spring No. 2. Now it is called «Be Healthy». Small balneological centers have been established at Springs No. 1 and No. 3.
The largest sanatorium complex in Tskaltubo is "Tskaltubo Spa Resort", which was opened in the restored sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense. The territory of the spa complex occupies 16 hectares. The buildings in the Stalinist Empire style have been completely restored. The spacious rooms with a ceiling height of 5 meters are impressive.
