Shamian Park

The official, though rarely used, name of this green oasis is Shamian Park. Its creation was linked to the formation of the island itself as a diplomatic enclave. The park was laid out in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, during the heyday of the foreign concessions, and originally served as a place of leisure for European and American diplomats, merchants, and their families.
