The small resort of Sukko is located 15 kilometers from Anapa. While the tourist infrastructure of the village is just beginning to develop, however, people come here with excursions to the Cypress Lake Sukko, as well as to the Utrish Nature Reserve.
The beach in the Sukko village is covered with small pebbles, the sea water here is very clean. It has a beautiful azure color. People who are vacationing in Anapa often come to the beach of the villages of Sukko and Great Utrish when kamka algae appear in the sea there. In these villages, there are never algae in the sea, since the beaches here are not sandy, but pebbly.
The beach of the Sukko village, like the village itself, is sandwiched between two mountains. From the north, Economic Mount (121 meters) rises above the beach, and from the south is Soldier Mount (186 meters). Both mountains consist of layered marl rock. On the slope of the Economic Mount, the inscription "Sukko" is laid out with stones, which is clearly visible from the beach. The Sukko River flows at the foot of this mountain.
There are hiking trails on both mountains, where you can walk and look at the surroundings from above. The height of the Economic mountain above the Sukko village is only 121 meters. Its gentle slope is climbed every hour by people who make a short walking tour to look at the surroundings from a height. Especially a lot of people climb the mountain in the evening to watch the sunset. The sun in this place descends directly into the sea.
The slope of the Economic Mountain from the Sukko village has no trees, but if you go towards the Varvarovka village, then juniper trees grow there in some places. The length of the trail along the crest of the mountain towards Varvarovka is 700 meters. There are several viewing points from where the mountain slope in the area of Varvarovka is visible. Bald Mountain is visible in the distance. Next to it are locates the viewing points Swallow`s Nest and 800 Steps.
It is impossible to climb Soldier Mountain from the Sukko village, since the mountain descends into the sea with a steep rocky cliff. However, there is a walking path on the mountain, which can be reached on the road from Sukko to the Great Utrish village. From the Sukko village, the road rises steeply uphill and there is a sharp turn in the middle of the way, where a small rotunda is built.
A path begins near the rotunda, where you can walk along the crest of Soldier Mountain. The length of the trail from the rotunda to the top of the mountain is 600 meters. From the top of Soldier Mountain there is a beautiful view of Sukko Beach, Economic Mount and the sea.
The main attraction of the Sukko village is Lake Sukko, which is also called Cypress Lake. This is an artificial reservoir created in the 1930s in a mountain valley. It was designed as a pond with drinking water for the surrounding villages, but eventually became a tourist attraction in the North Caucasus, thanks to an experiment conducted by local biologists.
Together with the creation of Sukko Lake, they planted 32 swamp cypresses in the northern part. Now their age reaches almost 100 years. They took root and reached large sizes. Swamp cypresses do not grow in Russia. Their homeland is the subtropical states of North America.
The scientific name of this tree is Taxodium Two-rows. Swamp cypresses reach a height of 30 meters. The circumference of the trunk of an adult tree averages 2 meters, although the trunks of some trees in US nature reserves reach 5 meters. The trunks of cypress trees on Lake Sukko have a bottle shape, specific for the trees whose roots are under water. The circumference of the trunks of some cypresses on Lake Sukko reaches 2 meters.
4 kilometers east of Sukko is the Great Utrish village. It also has several interesting attractions. From Anapa, ships sail here. Tourists come by ship to the Utrish Dolphinarium. It was established in 1984, one of the first in the Soviet Union. There are two pebble beaches in the bays of Great Utrish. An excursion route through the Utrish Nature Reserve also begins here. Since 2020, free access to the reserve is closed, its visit is possible only as part of an excursion.
