Vitebsk Town Hall is one of the most recognizable landmarks in the city, symbolizing its history and cultural heritage. Located in the very center of Vitebsk, it attracts tourists not only for its architecture but also because it houses the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore—one of the oldest and most interesting museums in Belarus.

Vitebsk Town Hall was built in 1597 after the city was granted Magdeburg Rights—a privilege of self-governance. It was not just an administrative building but a symbol of freedom and independence for the townspeople. Initially, the town hall was made of wood, but in 1775, it was rebuilt in stone in the Baroque style. In the 19th century, the building acquired classical features that have been preserved to this day.

The town hall has witnessed numerous historical events: wars, revolutions, and changes of power. Today, it is not only an architectural monument but also an important cultural center housing the Museum of Local Lore. Tourists can climb the Town Hall tower to enjoy stunning views of Vitebsk`s Old Town from above.

The Museum of Local Lore in Vitebsk was founded in 1918 and is now one of the largest museums in Belarus. Its exhibitions are located in several halls of the town hall and tell the rich history, culture, and nature of the Vitebsk region. The museum boasts over 200,000 exhibits, covering the period from ancient times to the present day.
