The history of this South-Eastern Asia country was full of hardships, and this refers not only to the period of middle ages, rise and decline of Khmer civilization, but to the 20th century, when dictator Pol Pot killed most part of his country`s population. As a result, now significant part of its population is younger than 40 years old.

Cambodia is very interesting for tourists from all over the world. They want to see the famous temple complex Angkor Wat, located not far from Siem Rip. Angkor Wat can be considered as one of the world`s most interesting sights. And it is worth visiting Cambodia only for the sake of it.

The rest of Cambodia isn’t so interesting, though you can spend on it some time. First of all it is the capital of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. Generally, it takes a day to visit fairly inconspicuous sights of this city. If you have time you may not go from Phnom Penh to Angkor Wat by car but by boat. First you go down Mekong, then over Tonlé Sap Lake. Of course, the trip isn’t too exciting but it isn’t bad for a change.

If you are interested in a cheap seaside holiday, you can go to the ocean coast in the area of Sihanoukville. It is a young resort and it can not compete with nearby resorts of Vietnam and Thailand. Sihanoukville is ideal for those who haven’t much money. Here you can find various hotels, and they are fairly cheap at that. And in some of them you can even get a good B&B room for 10 dollars a day.

Generally, all-around cheapness is a distinctive feature of Cambodia. Even in Siem Rip, the main tourist center, you can find a double room for $10 a day (in a good hotel) or 10-dollar meal for two persons (in a good restaurant.) There are no problems with it. The natives are very well-disposed to tourists, so your safety is quire complete.
