Only 70 kilometers of Naples there is Amalfi Coast - one of the best resort areas of South Italy, Sorrentine Peninsula. The famous glamour resort Sorrento is located on its northern coast. Southern part of the peninsula is the so-called Amalfi Coast dotted with cozy resort towns, such as Positano, Amalfi, Maiori and Minori.
If you decided to spend your vacations at one of the above resorts, you must make a right plan of your trip, where to go and what to do. In many tourist guides they are described as glamour resorts for stars and oligarchs. And partly, it is true, and if you aren’t one of them, you could hardly feel the atmosphere of the resort. For you it will be but a common seaside town. So, consider the fact, so that not to be disappointed later.
Also you must be aware that if you prefer good «beach vacations», then Amalfi Coast, to say nothing of Sorrento, isn’t very suitable for the purpose. There is nothing but steep cliffs in the area. You can find good beaches only in Positano and Maiori. All other towns have but tiny beaches, or specialized bathing platforms, as in Sorrento.
However, if you aren’t going to stay just in one place during all your vacations, but would rather move from one town to the other (for example, Positano, Sorrento, Capri), as well as make different tours (for example, Pompeii, Naples, Vesuvius), you may be quite sure that your holidays will be simply excellent.
It will take at most an hour to get from one town to another. Moreover, if you stay in different towns (and not just make short trips there), your experience will be more diversified. For example, in Sorrento and Amalfi one-day trips to Capri are offered. What a wonderful island! However, if you go there only for several hours, you won`t be able to get the feel of the resort where they usually put on jewellery during evening promenades. Indeed, you should go there for several days (at least 2-3 days).
The most famous resorts of Amalfi Coast are Positano and Maiori. They have the largest beaches in the area. Positano is very picturesque. Its houses are clustered on the slopes of very steep hills converging on the central beach. Of course, it may create certain problems, if your hotel is high up the hill, but beautiful landscapes of Positano can quite compensate for these inconveniences. Maiori has few rocks and a lot of comfortable hotels.
