The sandy beaches of Yevpatoria are the pride of this Crimean resort. They are covered with fine golden sand, the entrance to the sea is gently sloping. This makes Yevpatoria one of the best resorts in Crimea for families with children. The width of the beaches of Yevpatoria is on average about 50 meters. They are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay.
The beach area of Yevpatoria begins in the city center near the port lighthouse and stretches for about 10 kilometers beyond Moynaki Lake. On the beaches near the Frunze Resort Park there are not only sun loungers and umbrellas, but also light gazebos. At the exit from this park to the beach there is a sculpture of a Resting Hercules. This mythical hero became the symbol of Yevpatoria.
During the Greek colonization of the Crimea in the 4th-2nd centuries BC, the Greek polis Kerkinitida was located on the site of Yevpatoria. Most of the excavations were made on the site of the Sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense, near Duvanovskaya Street. Hercules was much loved and respected in Kerkinitida, so many images of this mythological hero were found during the excavations.
Another symbol of Yevpatoria are flocks of swans that swim in the sea. We are used to seeing swans in ponds and lakes, and at first it seems unusual that they swim in the sea. But in Yevpatoria, you gradually get used to swans in the sea as well as to seagulls.
If you look at the photos of the 19th century, you can see that the sandy beaches of Yevpatoria were much wider then, however, with the development of the port infrastructure in the Yevpatoria Bay some of the sand was washed into the sea. It happened over the last fifty years. However, the remaining beach still looks wide, compared to the pebble beaches of the resorts of the Southern Crimea.
If you want to see the wide sandy beaches of Yevpatoria, as they were in the last century, then you need to go towards Lake Donuzlav. There are preserved sandy beaches. Its width exceeds a hundred meters.
The most famous beach in these places is the Belyaus Sand Spit, which is called the "Crimean Maldives", there is a beautiful beach with white sand and azure water. The length of the sandy beach on the spit is 7 kilometers, and the width in some places exceeds 200 meters.
