The Belyaus Spit is located 70 kilometers northwest of Yevpatoria, near Lake Donuzlav. The beach on the Belyaus spit is called the "Crimean Maldives". Of course, the comparison with the beaches in the Maldives is not in favor of Belyaus, but if you compare it with the beaches of the Crimea, then without exaggeration, the Spit of Belyaus can be called the Best Beach in the Crimea.

Sandy beaches are typical for the western coast of Crimea, in the area of Yevpatoria. This distinguishes it favorably from the Southern coast of Crimea, where all the beaches are covered with pebbles or stones. At the same time, if in Yevpatoria itself the width of sandy beaches is no more than 50 meters, then on the Belyaus Spit the width of the sandy beach averages 100 meters, and in some places reaches 200 meters. The length of the sandy Beach is 7 kilometers.

The beach on the Belyaus spit is covered with white sand made of shell rock. It is very small and pleasant. The entrance to the sea is flat, that makes the Belyaus spit a good place for a beach holiday with children.  The water on the beach has a beautiful azure color. There are no large cities and towns for tens of kilometers from the spit, therefore there are no problems with sewage. The sea water on the Belyaus spit is recognized as one of the cleanest in the Crimea.

Recreation on the Belyaus Spit cannot yet be called popular. A few years ago, there were practically no hotels here, lovers of wild recreation came here with tents. This tradition has been preserved to this day. There are still a lot of tents on the beach of Belyaus in the summer season. However, the size of the spit allows to set up tents at a considerable distance from each other (50-100 meters), that makes the rest comfortable for everyone. You can set up tents on the Belyaus Spit for free.

The low popularity of recreation on the Belyaus Spit is explained that the western coast of Crimea has never been a place of mass tourism. There are no beautiful mountains, palaces and subtropical vegetation here. For tens of kilometers around Belyaus, you can only see the arid steppe.

Hotels and infrastructure on the Belyaus Spit

Over the past few years, the recreation infrastructure on the Belyaus Spit has improved significantly. High-quality asphalt roads have been laid from Simferopol to the Belyaus Spit and surrounding villages. The distance from Simferopol airport is 120 kilometers, which can be driven by taxi in two hours. And most importantly, a small resort village of Golden Crimea is developing on the spit, where more than 20 hotels and guest houses have been built.

Near the very base of the Belyaus Spit, where the Donuzlav Lake begins, there is a Viking Castle hotel. It is built in the form of a medieval castle. This most expensive hotel on Spit is located directly on the beach. Other hotels in the village of Golden Crimea are located about 200 meters away from the beach. The village has one street, hotels and guest houses of all levels are built on both sides of it, most of them have swimming pools in the courtyards. There are several cafes with good cuisine on this street.

The infrastructure on the beach is still minimal. There are several canopies and sunbeds near the base of the spit, and that`s it. There are no cafes on the beach, no entertainment, no promoters offering various services. On the one hand, the importunity of promoters on the beaches of the southern coast of Crimea is annoying, however, when there are no such services at all, this is also not a positive factor. There are several grocery stores near Viking Castle and in the village.

Previously, there were many reviews about the Belyaus spit with complaints about the garbage that lovers of wild recreation leave behind. It should be noted that this problem has been solved in recent years. People who come with tents for a long time usually install their own mini toilets, and almost no one leaves behind garbage.

Excursions on the Belyaus Spit

There are no various opportunities for excursions on the Belyaus Spit, as on the Southern coast of Crimea. The most popular is an excursion to Cape Tarkhankut, which is located 50 kilometers away, on the westernmost edge of the Crimean Peninsula. Here you will see beautiful rocky shores (40-50 m high), which descend directly into the sea water. Usually, tourists go to Cape Large Atlesh, where they can park. From there, you can walk to the Lost World Rock, and then return back and walk to Cape Small Atlesh and the Cup of Love. These are the most beautiful places of Cape Tarkhankut.

70 kilometers to the south is the medical resort of Yevpatoria. This city was founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC and was called Kerkinitida. It is one of the most famous balneological resorts in Russia. Procedures in the sanatoriums of the city are made with the therapeutic mud and mineral water of the Saki Lake and Lake Sasyk-Sivash. There are many restaurants and other entertainment in the city.

On the spit of Belyaus itself, you can see the ruins of the ancient Settlement of Belyaus, which was built by Greek colonists at the same time as Kerkinitida (Yevpatoria), in the 6th century BC. The ruins of Kerkenitida itself are located on the territory of the sanatorium of the Ministry of Defense, so excavations were not conducted there, and excavations of the settlement of Belyaus were carried out for 30 years. Artifacts have been found here, which are stored in the Local History Museum of Yevpatoria. The ruins on the Belyaus Spit can be bypassed in a few minutes if you visit them without a guide.
