The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Patriot Park is the main temple of the Armed Forces of Russia. The temple was built with people`s money, and it was consecrated on May 9, 2020 during the celebration of the 75th anniversary of Victory in the WWII. The height of the cathedral reaches 95 meters; it is one of the tallest temples in Russia.
The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ is located in Patriot Park, 50 kilometers southwest of Moscow. The tradition of military cathedrals is laid down in the southern cities of Russia. For example, in Novocherkassk in the 19th century, the Voznesensky Military Cathedral was built by the Cossack army. The Alexander Nevsky Military Cathedral was also built in Krasnodar in the 19th century. The Temple of all the Armed Forces of Russia appeared only in 2020.
The architect Dmitry Smirnov built the cathedral in the Byzantine style, although the domes of the temple are made in the traditional Russian style. The frame of the cathedral is made of high-alloy steel. The facades of the cathedral are finished with metal, so they have a dark green color. There is also a lot of metal decoration inside the cathedral.
There are lower and upper churches in the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. The main altar of the upper church is dedicated to the Resurrection of Christ. Above the altar you can see a huge three-dimensional image of Jesus Christ. Four side chapels of the upper church are dedicated to the patron saints of various branches of the armed forces: the Prophet Elijah - the patron saint of the aerospace forces, St. Alexander Nevsky - the patron saint of the ground forces, the Apostle Andrew the First-Called - the patron saint of the navy, the Great Martyr Barbara - the patroness of rocket troops. The lower temple was consecrated in honor of St. Prince Vladimir who baptized Russia in 988.
There is a lot of light and air in the spacious interior of the cathedral. On the walls you can see a large number of stained glass windows and mosaic panels made in the Byzantine style. Many mosaic panels are dedicated to historical events: The Battle of Kulikovo in 1380, the Patriotic War of 1812, the Great Patriotic War of 1941-45, therefore, not only the faces of saints, but also soldiers and generals are depicted on the walls of the cathedral.
The cathedral is located in the center of a large square, which is surrounded on all sides by the building of the Museum Road of Memory. "1418 steps to Victory" is written in front of the entrance to the Museum. Visitors walk through the long museum building around the cathedral. Its expositions are devoted to all the main events of the Great Patriotic War from the first days to the victory. Passing through the halls of the museum, visitors take 1,418 steps, according to the number of days that the war lasted.
In front of the altar of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ there is a monument to the "Mothers of the Victors". He is a 9-meter-tall grieving female figure who covers an ever-burning candle.
