House of Chekhov in Gurzuf is a cottage with four small rooms. However, its main advantage is its location on the edge of a secluded cape on the Black Sea coast. In front of the cottage there is a veranda and a garden with southern plants. Anton Chekhov bought a house in Gurzuf in 1900, and it became his favorite vacation spot.

Life in Crimea was forced for the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. In 1890, he spent almost a year on Sakhalin. This journey had a huge impact on his work. Alas, the difficulties of the trip undermined his health. He fell ill with tuberculosis and then was treated for all subsequent years.

Chekhov`s most productive creative stage was living in the Melikhovo Estate, in the Moscow Region. He lived there from 1892 to 1899. However, the lung disease progressed, and the doctors insisted on moving to Yalta. He built a house in Autka, 2 kilometers from the sea. This is a suburb of Yalta, built up with small Tatar houses. The House of Chekhov in Yalta is now also a museum.

The climate of Yalta had a positive effect on Chekhov`s health, but he could not rest in his house. In those years Yalta had already become a popular resort and many people wanted to "visit" Chekhov. As a result, every day he had to receive guests, including those whom he did not know. This made Anton Chekhov very tired, especially since in 1900 he began dating Olga Knipper. In 1901, she became his wife. The writer compared the house in Yalta to a prison.

Chekhov wanted to buy a secluded house where he and Olga could hide from the guests. One day he found out that a house on the seashore was for sale in Gurzuf. It was a small Tatar hut, and the owner set a very high price of 3000 rubles. However, when he came to see it, Chekhov did not even bargain. He really liked this place in the secluded bay of Gurzuf.

Having bought a house, Chekhov wrote to his sister: "I bought a piece of the shore with swimming and Pushkin rock near the pier and park in Gurzuf. The whole cove belongs to us now." Chekhov came here alone and with his wife Olga Knipper. The rocky shore of Gurzuf in this place is very picturesque. Under the sound of waves in a cozy veranda, Chekhov worked on his famous play "Three Sisters". After the completion of the play, he planted three palm trees in the garden of his house in Gurzuf. Chekhov loved gardening at his house in Yalta and at his house in Gurzuf. There is also a cypress tree in the garden, which was planted by Olga Knipper in 1904, when Anton Chekhov died.

Olga Knipper loved the house in Gurzuf very much and came here every summer. During Chekhov`s lifetime, only Ivan Bunin and Vera Komissarzhevskaya visited his house in Gurzuf. In the following years, dozens of famous people came to visit Olga Knipper. In 1987, the Anton Chekhov Memorial Museum was established here. In one of the rooms, the interior has been recreated as it was during Chekhov`s lifetime. In another room, an exhibition dedicated to the play Three Sisters has been created.
