The House of Writers is located on the site of the Pesochnoye Estate, which was rented by the Tsvetaev family every summer in the late 19th century. In Soviet times, there was a sanatorium here.  Concerts are now held in the House of Writers, and in the summer the Svyatoslav Richter Foundation holds literary and musical festivals.

From 1892 to 1902, the Tsvetaev family rented a house with an attic in the Pesochnoye Estate every summer. It is located 1.5 kilometers from the city center. The great Russian poet Marina Tsvetaeva warmly recalled the years spent in Tarusa. Marina Tsvetaeva and her sister Anastasia then came to Tarusa in 1907 and 1910, but in these years they stayed at their aunt`s house. They called this house the House of Tio, and now the Tsvetaev Museum is open in it.

In 1905, the house in the Pesochnoye Estate was rented by the famous artist Viktor Borisov-Musatov. His paintings on the theme of the life of the nobility in their estates can be seen in the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg. He lived in this house for 1 year and after his death was buried nearby on the high bank of the Oka River.

In 1914, the house in the Pesochnoye estate was rented by the Wulf family. Yuri Viktorovich Wulf was a Russian crystallographer, and his wife, Vera Wulf, was a famous pianist. Since 1918, they lived here permanently and sought to create a museum dedicated to the work of Borisov-Musatov. Traditionally, they held literary and musical evenings here, which attracted many creative people to Tarusa.

It was not possible to approve the decision to create a local history or literary museum in the estate, where creative people have been coming for decades. As a result, the house with an attic was demolished in the late 1960s and a dance floor of the Kuibyshev sanatorium was built on its foundation. Now this sanatorium does not exist, and the place of the dance floor is now just a place of rest in the park. The foundation slabs of the Tsvetaev house have been preserved, as well as the lime alley planted by Ivan Tsvetaev. His bust is installed next to the House of Writers.

In 1952, a large building was built in the sanatorium, which was used as a dining room and a recreation club. In the 2000s, it was reconstructed and the House of Writers was opened. There is a concert hall on the second floor. It is spacious, thanks to the huge windows. There is a grand piano for chamber concerts. A local orchestra performs in this hall, and bands from other cities come here to tour in the summer. Every summer, the musical and literary festival of the Svyatoslav Richter Foundation is held in the House of Writers of Tarusa.

The side wall of the House of Writers is decorated with the author`s mosaic by the Italian master Mark Bravuro. His school is located on the ground floor, and he lives in Tarusa. Near the mosaic wall, you can see the Golden River art object, created by sculptors Sergei Choban and Sergei Kuznetsov. Other art objects are also installed near the entrance to the House of Writers.
