The Kolomenskoye Park takes up 390 hectares. It contains several parts, each of them having a beauty of its own. The oldest part of the park consisting of century old oaks is near the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan. It is there that the wooden palace of Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich was located. The trunk diameter of some oaks reaches several meters.
Near the Church of the Icon of Our Lady of Kazan, and to the north from the Golosov Gully there are two big apple orchards. The apple trees were planted in the 20 century and today everyone can pluck an apple or more. The orchards are especially beautiful in spring during the blooming period of apple trees.
If you come in Kolomenskoye by car, you should start your tour of the park from the apple orchard. If you come there by metro, you will first see the oak grove. And then you may either go to the Golosov Gully or come down from the Ascension Church to the embankment of the Moscow river. The embankment is well-appointed and makes your inclined to deliberate walks.
