Mirza-Rize-Khan`s house is a historical landmark of the balneological resort of Borjomi. This house was built near the entrance to Borjomi Central Park in 1892 for the Iranian consul. He loved to come here for rest and treatment.
Mirza-Rize Khan`s house is often called "Firuza", which means "Turquoise". This name exactly corresponds to its architectural style, where Iranian and Georgian features are mixed. The house itself is built of stone, but it has a rich finish of wood carvings.
On the second floor of the house there is a traditional Georgian house balcony. The ceiling above the balcony is decorated with beautiful stucco with turquoise stones. Niches above the facades of Muslim mosques are decorated in approximately the same way. The wooden elements of the house are painted blue. Thanks to these decorative details, the house looks very light and airy.
Mirza-Rize Khan`s house was built at the end of the 19th century, when Georgia was part of the Russian Empire for more than a century, however, the famous Iranian statesman Mirza-Rize Khan decided to build a house for himself in Borjomi to be able to relax here. He was a consul in the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire.
After the death of Consul Mirza-Rize Khan, his house became the property of the city. A hotel was opened in it, then a sanatorium for Soviet workers was located here. Nowadays, one of the best hotels in Borjomi Golden Tulip is located in the house again.
