The Museum of Urban Life is located in a wooden building of the 19th century, which is located on the road between Assumption Square and the Uglich Kremlin. Absolutely all tourists who come to Uglich pass along this road. Many of them enter the museum.

In the 19th century, the tea shop of merchant Kashin was located in the basement of this building. In 1897, on the initiative of the merchant and philanthropist Evreinov, the first public library in Uglich was created in the house. Books for this library were presented by the merchant`s wife Maria Leontieva. She bequeathed the rest of her property to her beloved dog, so there is a monument to the merchant, the merchant`s wife and the dog in front of the entrance to the Museum of Urban Life.

The Museum of Urban Life opened in this house in 2004. In the halls of the museum, interiors in the houses of wealthy citizens of Uglich of the early 20th century have been recreated. Here you can see how the study, living room, dining room, and boudoirs of women who follow fashion looked like. The museum has dresses that were in fashion at the beginning of the 20th century. There are a lot of antique furniture and dishes in the halls.

There is still a tea room in the basement of the Museum of Urban Life. It recreates the interior of the merchant Kashin`s tea room. Here you can drink tea from the samovar, try bagels, pies and other handmade sweets.
