The Museum the Road of Memory in Patriot Park is dedicated to the events of the WWII. It encircles the square around the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, the main temple of the Armed Forces of Russia. People, moving from one hall to another, take 1,418 steps. The Great Patriotic War lasted for so many days from June 22, 1941 to May 9, 1945.
In front of the entrance to the Museum the Road of Memory is written: "1418 steps to Victory." Entering the first hall, visitors see pictures of peaceful life in June 1941, but from the second hall they are immersed in the atmosphere when German planes began bombing Russian cities.
On the right side, a continuous ribbon moves photos of veterans that are uploaded to the archive of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. This tape is called "The River of Time", In total; there are photos of more than 34 million soldiers and officers in this tape. This River of Time perpetuates the memory of literally every soldier who took part in the WWII.
The museum uses multimedia technologies very actively, although there are a lot of traditional exhibits. Together they recreate the atmosphere of those days and those events to which the museum hall is dedicated. The museum has 35 halls in total.
From the hall of the First Day of the War of the Museum the Road of Memory, visitors move to the hall of the Defense of the Brest Fortress, which lasted more than a month. The next hall is dedicated to the Evacuation of industry. From the European regions of Russia, entire factories were transported beyond the Ural Mountains. It was the most difficult period of the war, when there was not enough ammunition at the front due to the factories had not yet started production in a new place.
The next two halls are dedicated to the Blockade of Leningrad, as well as the Battle for Moscow, where Soviet troops were able to inflict tangible damage on the Germans for the first time. A separate hall is dedicated to military doctors who rescued soldiers on the front line, as well as treated them in numerous hospitals.
The Defense of Sevastopol Hall is dedicated to the heroic defense of the Crimean city, which Soviet troops defended for 250 days. The Indestructible Stalingrad Hall is dedicated to the events of the defense of the city, and the subsequent encirclement of the 6th Paulus Army. The next hall of the Museum the Road of Memory is dedicated to the Battle for the Caucasus in 1942. This was the period when German troops occupied the largest territory of Russia.
Separate halls are dedicated to the Partisan movement, which was actively conducted in the rear of the German troops in the forests of Belarus and Ukraine, as well as State Security Agencies. Hall No. 17 of the Museum Road of Memory is dedicated to Culture during the war. Despite the war, poets continued to write poetry, artists to perform, universities to teach students. While in besieged Leningrad, the orchestra performed Shostakovich`s Sixth Symphony.
The Battle of Kursk and the Battle for the Dnieper are the themes of the halls in the Museum the Road of Memory, when the Russian troops had a strategic initiative and were constantly advancing. A separate hall "The Sea is on fire" is dedicated to the events that took place during the battles at sea. Hall No. 27 "Operation Bagration" is dedicated to the most successful operation in Belarus, when Russian troops defeated the central German front and opened the way for an offensive on Berlin.
The last halls of the Museum the Road of Memory are dedicated to military operations in Europe and the storming of Berlin. Here you can see German banners that Russian soldiers threw at the Mausoleum on Red Square, as well as Adolf Hitler`s suit and shoes, which were found in a bunker during the storming of the Reich Chancellery in Berlin.
