The Palaces of Sevastopol are called two monumental buildings on the Kornilov Embankment in the Artillery Bay. Next to them is the pedestrian zone of Seaside Boulevard. One of the palaces is called the Palace of Childhood and Youth, and the other is the Institute of Biology of the South Seas, which people call the Sevastopol Aquarium.
The palaces of Sevastopol did not belong to tsars or nobles. They were built as scientific institutes. One of the palaces was founded in 1914. It was built according to the project of architect Chistov for the Sechenov Institute of Physical Methods of Treatment.
During the WWII, the Palace was partially destroyed, but the lower floors were preserved. It was restored in the 1960s. The Medical institute was moved to Yalta, and children`s educational and sports institutions were placed here. The building was named the Palace of Pioneers. Nowadays, these organizations have remained in this building, but now it is called the Palace of Childhood and Youth.
Sevastopol Aquarium is an interesting natural science museum. In numerous aquariums and pools, you can see various fish and amphibians that live in the Black Sea. Black Sea sharks and rays swim in the central pool.
