Seaside Boulevard of Sevastopol is the main park area in the historical center of the city. Many historical and cultural monuments of the city related to the events of the Crimean War of 1853-56 and the WWII are concentrated nearby. Sevastopol has never been a resort of the Crimea, but many tourists come here to get acquainted with the history of the city.

The historical part of Sevastopol is located on a peninsula washed by the waters of three bays: Sevastopol’s, Southern and Artillery. During the Crimean War, the Nikolaevskaya battery was located on the site of Seaside Boulevard. It defended the city from the north for preventing the possible entry of Allied ships into the Bays of Sevastopol

In 1884, all the fortifications of the battery were dismantled. The trees were planted in its place and an embankment was built. In the waters of the Sevastopol Bay, in 1854, a Monument to Submerged ships was erected, which became a symbol of the city. During the Crimean War, sailing ships of the Russian navy could not fight with English and French steamships. The navy command decided to submerge the ships at the entrance to Sevastopol Bay in order to prevent enemy ships from entering the bays of the city.

Nakhimov Square and Count’s Pier are located on the east side of Seaside Boulevard, and the Palaces of Sevastopol are located on the west side. This is the name of the monumental buildings on the shore of Artillery Bay: the Palace of Pioneers and the Sevastopol Aquarium Museum.
