Most tourists come to Mount Vottovaara from the village of Gimoly. The road from the village leads to the southern slope of the mountain. The path leading to the top of Vottovaara on the southern slope is quite steep. On the southern slope, you can find many groups of Seids.
At the foot of the mountain Vottovaara, the path goes through a birch grove, but already on the slope of the mountain you can see seids and dead trees with twisted trunks. At the very top of the mountain, all the trees are dead. This is due to they begin to rotate around their axis under the influence of some force, and the bark falls off them. After that, the tree dies.
The photo, which was taken on the southern slope of the mountain, shows how a powerful crack passed several tens of meters from the foot of the pine tree to its top, and this crack did not go smoothly, but rotating around the trunk. The bark around the crack began to fall off, but in other places, it is still preserved. This photo is evidence of how the tree trunk begins to rotate around its axis. Therefore, the tree gradually dies.
