Troodos village is a center for hiking on mountain trails in summer and skiing in winter. It is located near the mount Olympus, whose height is 1952 meters. Despite the warm weather in the coastal cities of Cyprus, snow falls here in winter.
There are many trekking trails near Troodos village. They are on the mountain slopes among the cedar and pine forests. The Artemis ring Trail is 7 kilometers long around mount Olympus. From the village of Troodos you will have to walk there 2.3 kilometers or drive this distance by car. However, there are no fewer similar trails near the village of Troodos itself. Their total length reaches several tens of kilometers.
Cedar forests are the pride of the Troodos mountain range. Mostly pine trees predominate here, but Cyprus Cedars grow in many places near Olympus. This type of cedar grows only in Cyprus in the Troodos mountains, at an altitude of at least 400 meters. Cyprus cedar is called short-coniferous. In addition to the village of Troodos, many cedar trees grow in the Cedar Valley, which is closer to Paphos.
In winter, the village of Troodos has a ski resort. From January to March, there is enough snow in the highest areas of the Troodos mountains to make skiing comfortable. The trails are located on the Northern slopes of the mountains, and the lifts to them are named after the Olympic gods. There are 5 trails of varying difficulty on the Northern slope of mount Olympus. The Zeus chairlift will take you to the top of Olympus. The Hera rope lift takes you up the slope of Olympus, but below the top.
The next slope, which is also equipped with trails of the Troodos ski resort, is called Sunny valley. There are 4 trails that can be reached by the Hermes and Aphrodite ski lifts. A daily skipass costs about 15 euros.
