The pastoral landscapes of the Volga River in the city of Tutaev are very picturesque. Both banks of the river are high, and the left bank is all pitted with ravines and low hills. During the 17th and 18th centuries, several churches were built on these hills. All this has created the unique appearance of Tutaev, which attracts tourists.

On the right bank is the Borisoglebsk side, and on the left – the Romanov side. The city is located on both banks of the river; there is no bridge between them. The river is too wide. There is no need for a bridge, as the city is located away from busy highways. Residents of Tutayev use the ferry crossing. The ferry constantly runs between the banks, carrying a few passenger cars. The main road from Yaroslavl to Tutaev and then to Rybinsk goes along the right bank of the river on the Borisoglebsk side.

In order to cross to the Romanov side, you do not need to wait for the ferry. If you come to Tutaev by car with a short tour, then there is no point in transporting the car. Next to the ferry crossing, you can take a motor boat that will take you to the left bank in 5 minutes. Walking along the high bank of the Volga River among the ravines on the Romanov side is more pleasant on foot.

On the Borisoglebsk side there is a beautiful Volga embankment, which runs near the water along the sandy bank of the Volga. The shore of the Borisoglebsk side is as high as on the Romanov side, but there is a place for an embankment, as well as a wide sandy beach where you can swim and sunbathe in summer.

On the Romanov side, the steep slope of the coastline approaches directly to the water. In some places near the Kazan Transfiguration Church there are also beautiful sandy beaches, however, the Volga Embankment is located on the top of a high slope. On this embankment, Boris Kustodiev painted his famous paintings "Walking on the Volga".
